Last week on Thursday, May 12th, the Denver Broncos 2020 first-round pick, Jerry Jeudy, was “arrested on suspicion of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer” (ESPN). This is a misdemeanor offense. Jeudy’s girlfriend notified authorities after he had locked some of her property and baby items in his car. She had planned on going to Virginia but could not after Jeudy locked her personal belongings in the car. Jeudy has a one-month-old child with his girlfriend.
Although he committed no physical violence against his girlfriend, Colorado law states that domestic violence includes coercion and intimidation. Jeudy’s girlfriend told the judge on the case that she did not feel threatened but asked authorities to “monitor” the situation. She wants the case dismissed.
Luckily, Jeudy only had to spend one night in jail before being released. The Broncos’ new coach, Nathaniel Hackett, met with him after his release. While Hackett did not specify if there will be any consequences, it will be a good first test for him as a head coach.
Jeudy will have his first hearing on May 31st.
